Environmental Professional

The Environmental Sustainability line of business is responsible for setting strategy and leading the planning and development of environmental projects that support The Walt Disney Company’s 2030 environmental goals. These goals span key focus areas including emissions, water and oceans, waste, materials, and sustainable design.

As an Environmental Professional, you will cultivate environmental awareness among Leaders and Cast across the Walt Disney World property while supporting the implementation of projects designed to reduce the environmental impact of operations. In alignment with Disney’s sustainability goals, you will help drive change across the business through process improvements, equipment changes, and initiatives that influence behavior with Leaders and Cast at all levels.  You will partner with Leaders and Cast across operations, business units, and support teams to implement and sustain programs that move Walt Disney World closer to achieving Disney’s environmental sustainability goals.

This role will help advance environmental efficiencies through initiatives such as expanding recycling infrastructure and diversion efforts, reducing plastics, supporting water stewardship, and improving energy efficiency. This role requires building trusted relationships with Leaders and environmental champions, identifying and addressing implementation risks, celebrating progress, and providing ongoing consultative support as Cast adapt to change.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Orlando, Florida

This role reports to the Manager, Environmental Sustainability

What You Will Do

• Influence and support Leaders across all levels and lines of business to build foundational understanding of Disney’s environmental goals and advance sustainability initiatives.
• Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while supporting a range of environmental projects and initiatives.
• Support efforts to address environmental challenges by leading and/or participating in site walkthroughs with area Leaders and contributing to follow-up actions and improvement recommendations.
• Implement Cast engagement strategies by guiding behavioral and process changes in creative, practical, and cost-effective ways.
• Collaborate with local partners who support daily operations to drive consistency across Walt Disney World and ensure smooth transition of projects from the Environmental Sustainability team to operational ownership.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with Leaders and environmental champions to support implementation, sustain progress, and encourage long-term adoption of sustainability practices.
• Identify opportunities to enhance energy efficiency, reduce waste, improve recycling, and conserve water across the property.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of business operations, with demonstrated problem-solving, leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
• Proven success engaging, negotiating, and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical partners at multiple levels of the organization.
• Conflict management skills to negotiate alignment with competing business priorities
• Experience leading and facilitating meetings with partners to ensure an understanding of the company culture change and develop a change adoption plan.
• Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and work effectively in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment.

• Ability to spend up to an average 20-30 hours per week doing field work and hosting partners onstage and backstage.

• Able to perform field studies, handling waste in a variety of different weather conditions and comfortably lift 40 pounds
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, collaboration tools, and project management applications.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• Walt Disney World operations experience.

• Understanding of TWDC environmental goals and targets.
• Knowledge of backstage support services and infrastructure teams.
• Experience developing or executing sustainability strategies such as emissions reductions, zero waste, food waste reduction and water stewardship.

• Proficiency in leadership competencies, including leadership, management, technical capability, and relationship-building.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, change management, business, or related field 

Preferred Education

• Sustainability related certification or educational experience
• Project Management related certification or educational experience
• Zero Waste Certification or related experience

The hiring range for this position in Florida is $73,800.00-$101,400.000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
