About the Role & Team
Walt Disney Studios (WDS) brings unforgettable stories and characters to audiences around the world. Together with our affiliates, we’re redefining filmmaking through creativity, innovation and collaboration, and our Technology team helps carry that legacy into the future.
As a Senior Systems Engineer in our Technical Services and Systems Engineering (TSaSE) team, you’ll provide front-line technical support to WDS and its affiliates, working alongside experienced technologists in a fast-paced production environment. You are a seasoned professional, ideally from a production or post-production support background, with experience guiding high-end technical support teams. You stay calm under pressure, prioritise well when things change quickly, and bring strong problem-solving, leadership and relationship-building skills.
TSaSE works closely with our engineering and architecture teams to design, build and support the Production Systems and Applications that power every stage of moviemaking. In this role, you’ll:
- Deliver excellent support for our internal systems and applications, roll out new technology initiatives, support special events such as movie premieres, and help teams use technology to work smarter.
- Champion our clients, representing their needs to the wider technology teams supporting WDS.
- Make sure every incident and request is resolved, or triaged and escalated to the right team, as the first point of contact for our clients.
- Provide 24/7 global support for show-critical business and production operations, including travel when needed.
This role is based in Pinewood Studios in Slough, with an expectation to work onsite four days per week.
Values
You’ll join a team grounded in our Disney values, acting with Integrity, welcoming everyone through Inclusion, embracing boundless Creativity, working together through Collaboration and caring deeply for our Community. These values shape how we work and how we support one another every day.
What You Will Do
- Be the go-to expert for the technical services, systems, applications and specialised workflows used across the Studio, owning assigned tools from implementation through to delivery.
- Respond to hardware and software requests, routing or escalating to the right teams and keeping users and senior management updated on progress.
- Troubleshoot and repair end-user hardware, including computers, mobile devices, printers, workstations and switches, and help install and maintain infrastructure.
- Implement and standardise desktop monitoring to give a clear, complete view of the environment’s health.
- Define and document support processes and procedures, train users on complex topics, and guide teams on new or improved workflows.
- Lead small to medium projects and drive WDS initiatives with other segments and departments, championing continuous improvement and sharing clear updates with senior leadership.
- Travel on location as needed to support WDS productions.
- Pick up new technologies quickly and independently, and take pride in solving tricky technical challenges.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Strong experience in desktop support and system administration in a production and/or enterprise environment (studio production experience strongly preferred), plus a degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
- Hands-on implementation, administration and configuration management of Microsoft Windows Server, MDT, Active Directory and Group Policy, as well as Exchange in cloud-based and multi-tenancy environments.
- Extensive endpoint management and workflow automation experience using HCL BigFix (Windows) and JAMF (macOS), including writing and maintaining scripts in PowerShell, Python and Bash.
- Network troubleshooting experience (LAN/WAN and VLAN) and an understanding of building, supporting and maintaining virtual environments.
- Experience with SaaS and IDP implementation, and knowledge of FileMaker Pro and other database tools.
- A forward-thinking approach with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A customer-focused communicator with excellent written and verbal skills, including technical writing and documentation of workflows and runbooks.
- Able to work on-site, lift 35–60 lbs (approx. 16–27 kg) of computer equipment from floor to desk, and keep a flexible schedule for immediate travel when needed.
